I Have A Blog

As you can tell... I now have a blog. I'll have my first official post up soon enough, but for now, you get this. :) I worked really hard on making the blog look good- for a couple reasons, I guess. I love making things creative and colorful and pretty. Also, most people aren't going to be as drawn to a blog if it's just a basic, unexciting screen. The blog could be the most fascinating blog on all of the world wide web... but not a lot of people may choose to read it. It all goes back to this (sort of): don't judge a book by its cover.

Which, as one of my neurotypical friends recently pointed out, shouldn't really be applied to books. Most things that you need to know about a book are on its cover. If the plot sounds boring or creepy, "do you really think I'm gonna read it?"

But, of course, it should be applied to humans. Many people say, "They're ugly," or "they look so nerdy," or "they have something... 'special.'" And they never take the time to get to know them.

From my personal experience, that's how it is with Asperger's. Nobody takes the time to 'get to know' it. Most people haven't heard of it, and those who have often either confuse it with being a 'disease' or simply lump it with the rest of the autism spectrum. Which isn't right. Asperger's isn't like classic autism. At all. And it isn't something 'bad,' it's something cool-- if you just take the time to get to know it. So many wonderful things come packaged in with the 'negatives.' I have impressive grades but never have to study. I can hear a song or watch a movie once and already begin memorizing it (by the end of whatever show I'm in, I've got the whole script down.) I'm great in the cultural/fine arts (not trying to brag, sorry) and that makes me care so much less about the fact that I'm entirely unathletic.

If people 'got to know' Asperger's, they'd realize that it isn't a burden. It's, in several ways, a gift. But, sadly, many never will. My goal for this blog is that you will not fall into -or remain in- the category of those who judge AS by its cover. If you don't know much about Asperger's and are interested to learn more, take just a little time out of your life to look it up. Or, you can just read 'my' book. It's a really good resource, plus some parts of it are humorous; making it a fun read.

For those of you who will decide to follow my blog: I really appreciate that you care enough to discover.

And- I promise that my future posts will be so much better. (:

Thank you!
